Chapter 4 : The Double-Edged Sword of the Internet

Hello everyone! for today's blog we will tackle all about the internet! It's been very interesting on how internet works and how if affeced us greatly especially in our everyday lives.

Internet has been the place of all information throughout the years, not only answering your curiousity but also helps you in finiding solutions in aiding your health complications and helps you indentify which complication can or may possibly be a health issue that you have. With the help of the module that was sent to us, we followed through what are the things that we should look our for especially in our everyday browsing and how it affects our lives, can it help? or can it worsen? WIth many possibilities that can be found in the internet, it might just well be a double-edge sword. Let's break it down and answer the following questions above.

1. Can medical websites help you diagnose any health problems? Is it safe to take actions concerning your health based on advice from the web?

  • Medical websites can provide useful information about symptoms, conditions, and treatments, which may help you understand potential health issues. Sites like Mayo Clinic or WebMD offer general insights, but they aren’t a substitute for a doctor’s diagnosis. Symptoms can overlap across many conditions, and self-diagnosing risks missing serious issues or misinterpreting minor ones. Some might even suggest that this type of disease or sickness is what you are experiencing, but is it safe to act with just an advice from the web? Not usually. Taking actions like starting medications, changing diets drastically, or ignoring symptoms based on online info can be risky. Always consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice.

2. It is critical to comprehend what "harmful online content" entails. International human rights law lays out a number of legitimate limitations on freedom of expression, particularly where it clashes with other rights. Incitement to violence or racial hatred, child sex imagery, and defamation are examples of topics that may be forbidden. International law requires that limits be finely specified and overseen by the courts in each case.

  • For me. it is very important to know and be knowledgable of the different types of content people post in the internet, with the rapid pace of influencers increasing their numbers are months and past go by, they always creat different types of content. Therefore, nobody should feel threatened or hurt online. Recognizing and reporting harmful content helps protect everyone while balancing free expression. If you spot something harmful, report it to the platform and avoid engaging.

3. Do you have any experiences that you have had with any one of the challenges outlined above? How did you deal with it? What was the final outcome? What lessons did you learn?

  • I've had my fair share of looking up different contents online, not everything was fitted into my forte, some are disturbing to others and some find it entertaining and amusing, that's just how people view different contents that are posted online and again, it's online but yet the influence of it can spread like a plague, I haven't really encountered any harmful online content but if ever I will, I would see if it goes against my morals and values that I believe in and would thoroughly check if it is something that can be accepted with most of the people in the community or society then I will deal with it in a way that I accept it and find it okay.
Love lots💗,
