Chapter 7.2 : Adulting 101: E-commerce Edition (No Scam, Just Facts)
Hello, blog! fae is back at it again with another vlog!! Today's topic will be really interesting for all the girlies out there who love to go online shopping like me, we need to know the potential risk of of buying things online, especially to our beloved stores and shops that we see online, let's know how to mitigate the risk of scams and othe possible threat to e-commerce which we all use and love so much.
Running an e-commerce store is like inviting the world into your shop, but risks like scams, data leaks, or unhappy customers can dim the excitement.
Protecting customer data is like guarding a friend’s trust. Shoppers share personal info, expecting safety. Use secure payment systems like Stripe, which encrypt transactions, and ensure your site has HTTPS via an SSL certificate. Store minimal data, use strong passwords, and follow laws like GDPR. A clear privacy policy shows you value customers’ trust as much as your own.
Website security is your digital lock. Hackers target e-commerce for fraud, so keep platforms like Shopify updated to fix vulnerabilities. Use firewalls, scan for malware, and back up your site regularly. A reliable host with strong defenses is like a safe neighborhood, keeping your shop secure and welcoming.
Fraud stings like a betrayal. Use tools to flag odd orders, like huge purchases to new addresses. Require CVV codes and offer secure options like Apple Pay. Stay cautious but warm—most customers are honest, and a friendly vibe keeps them coming back.
Trust is your store’s heartbeat. Display reviews, security badges, and a clear return policy to ease worries. Answer chats or emails fast, showing real care. Be honest about shipping to avoid broken promises. Treat shoppers like guests, and they’ll feel at home.
Inventory snags or delays frustrate, so use software to track stock and plan for busy times. If issues arise, inform customers and offer small gestures like discounts. Finally, dodge legal risks by understanding taxes, avoiding false ads, and ensuring site accessibility.
